Day 29 - Diving in Hikkaduwa Gala with a Whale Shark

I couldn't help writing this, even though i have 9 dives to go here before this. We actually planned to dive in kirala gala (hikkaduwa), but changed our minds to dive here as we heard the news that there is a chance of seeing a whale shark.
It didn't take much time to show up, and kept on circling around us as long as we were there. This whale shark wasn't a fully grown one, though it was ~6meters long.
I don't believe that it has been playful with us, because it doesn't have the intelligence to be so like a marine mammal. But there got to be a good reason for this behavior.

Day 19 - Diving in Pigeon Island Trincomalee

Finally i gotta free time to post this five months old dive.

It actually was the second time i visited the pigeon island, But the first time i dived in the northern side of the island. It is not more than 6 meters deep. We planned to go there in the evening because the island is less crowded at that time. The visibility wasn't bad either though its the evening.

Live corals, huge schools of fish, its in-fact the best place i dived so far in terms of fish-and-coral. But bit shallow to be a full experience diving site.

 

Day 18 - Diving in The Gokana Reef and Kalu Point in Trincomalee

This was a two dive trip in Trincomalee, We took the boat from uppuweli and headed south to gokana reef and Kalu point.

Gokana Reef

Gokana reef is a ~20m deep scattered rocky bottom diving site, 15-20mins boat from uppuweli. At one point the edge of the rock is very steep and couldn't even see the bottom. We were able identify a Bluespotted stingray here.

Kalu Point

"Kalu" point is a very shallow diving site, less 8 meters deep at the deepest point. So this is a very popular snorkeling site than a diving site. And also this is accessible from land too. This is located few kilometers south to uppuweli.
We spotted a cuttlefish here.. and this is the first cuttlefish i found so far in my short diving life. :) We spent few minutes observing this beautiful creature; until it swam away finding its too annoying to hang with these two strange creatures who were making bubbles and hovering around.

The Mr. Cuttlefish
